UTrade's Ex-Analyst Runs Out of Road in Israel's Binary Options Reckoning

2026-09-07

A Tel Aviv court has convicted Roy Cuzin, former chief analyst at UTrade, of aiding aggravated fraud related to a massive binary options and automated trading scheme. Cuzin pleaded guilty to an amended indictment after being extradited from Mexico, where he fled following initial investigations. The prosecution and defense are jointly requesting a 22-month prison sentence and a fine for his involvement in presenting false investment returns to clients between 2012 and 2015. UTrade raised approximately 100 million Israeli shekels from around 600 clients by promising annual returns of 15% to 20%. When the firm faced severe financial distress after misusing client funds for operational expenses, Cuzin actively persuaded customers to accept delayed payouts by falsely blaming technical glitches. The case highlights the long-standing regulatory crackdown on fraudulent binary options operations that originated in the region. This legal outcome serves as a stark warning to industry participants and financial service providers regarding personal liability in fraudulent retail investment schemes. Regulators worldwide continue to pursue individuals involved in historical binary options fraud, reinforcing enforcement mechanisms. Investors and market operators should expect tighter regulatory oversight and stricter compliance requirements across retail trading platforms.
