A new report from Opensignal reveals that Saudi Arabia's telecom sector has experienced a structural network transformation, positioning the Kingdom first globally in mobile download speeds among geographically large nations. The achievements follow nearly a decade of spectrum policy integration and infrastructure investment. Market leaders stc and Mobily divide top metrics, with stc dominating in speed and coverage, while Mobily leads in network reliability and consistency. Opensignal highlighted that extensive capital investments—including over $1.5 billion committed to 5G spectrum acquisition since 2019—have significantly elevated service quality across the country. However, higher technical quality has not automatically resulted in subscriber market share gains, as customer movement is influenced by localized coverage, pricing strategies, and service packaging. Looking into the second half of 2026, network responsiveness and service availability are expected to become the dominant drivers of competitive advantage. Telecom operators will need to pivot toward monetizing their advanced 5G infrastructure through targeted commercial strategies.
