Saudi Arabia’s merchandise imports recorded a 3% year-on-year decline in June, falling to approximately SAR 70.45 billion according to the latest figures released by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). On a month-on-month basis, total imports decreased by 6%, representing a drop of nearly SAR 4.35 billion compared to the previous month's recorded totals. The statistics reveal that machinery, electrical equipment, and mechanical appliances dominated the Kingdom's import breakdown, comprising 26% of all merchandise purchases at a total value of SAR 18.1 billion. Chemical products, precious metals, vehicles, and base metals followed as the primary categories shaping the nation's trade balance for the period. The decline in overall import valuation reflects broader economic dynamics and adjustments in domestic demand across key commercial segments. Market participants will monitor upcoming trade data to evaluate the impact of shifting domestic consumption trends on logistics, local supply chains, and non-oil GDP performance.
