Foreign institutional investors were net sellers on the Saudi Exchange (TASI) for the week ending August 20, unloading shares worth SAR 175.9 million. According to the latest weekly trading data released by Tadawul, foreign institutions represented 34.61% of total buy orders and 35.43% of total sell transactions across the market. Saudi retail investors also joined the selling trend, posting net outflows of SAR 279.4 million, driven largely by high-net-worth individual sellers. Conversely, domestic Saudi institutional investors stepped in as primary buyers, recording net purchases of SAR 264.3 million. This accumulation was mainly spearheaded by local investment funds, which absorbed SAR 214.1 million in shares, alongside moderate support from government entities and corporate buyers. The divergence in investor behavior highlights a shifting liquidity dynamic between international market participants and domestic institutional funds. For market participants, tracking these capital flows offers critical insights into foreign sentiment regarding Saudi equities amid broader regional macroeconomic trends. Going forward, investors will closely monitor whether local funds can continue absorbing foreign selling pressure to maintain price stability across major benchmark sectors.
