Saudi Arabia’s cumulative operating capacity for renewable energy has expanded dramatically, increasing over 63-fold since 2020 to reach 19.3 gigawatts through September 2026. Data published by the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) underscores the Kingdom's rapid infrastructure shift under its Vision 2030 initiatives, driven by rich natural solar and wind resources.
This structural surge in green power infrastructure aligns with Saudi Arabia's broader economic diversification program to lower internal reliance on hydrocarbons. The deployment trajectory has accelerated exponentially in recent years, jumping from just 0.3 gigawatts in 2020 to 12.3 gigawatts in 2025 before adding several more gigawatts in 2026.
Looking forward, additional projects like Al Henakiyah 2 and Rabigh 2 are scheduled for completion, adding another 0.7 gigawatts to the national grid. Investors will be monitoring how this capacity expansion impacts listed utility operators, construction engineering firms, and energy sector equities on the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul).
