Gibraltar-based crypto market maker Wincent is preparing for a major expansion into the United States market and exploring potential entry into traditional financial assets. Following a recent rebranding, Chief Executive Officer Tom Mazur revealed that the firm has significantly scaled its operations, expanding its headcount by 80% since 2024. The firm currently reports an average daily notional trading volume exceeding $5 billion across more than 15 global venues and exchanges. To drive this American push, Wincent has hired Shawn Egger, a former executive at Citadel Securities and Crypto.com, who will focus on institutional relationships, market making, tokenization, and liquidity infrastructure.
The strategic move highlights the rapid institutionalization of digital asset trading infrastructure. Wincent’s OTC desk already provides liquidity services to retail brokers, CFD platforms, banks, and ETF issuers. By establishing a presence in the United States and targeting traditional asset classes, the firm aims to bridge the gap between legacy institutional finance and crypto markets. However, operating in the US presents complex regulatory challenges, which competing firms like Wintermute have navigated by registering as broker-dealers.
Looking ahead, market participants will be monitoring Wincent's regulatory compliance strategy in the US, as well as its concrete steps toward offering traditional financial products. As institutional adoption of digital assets accelerates following the approval of spot ETFs, market makers with cross-asset capabilities and deep liquidity are positioned to capture growing market share. Traders should watch how enhanced liquidity from such expansions impacts execution quality across top digital assets.
